Warner Music Group (WMG) acquires the assets of 12Tone Music, an independent label founded in 2018 by veteran music manager Doug Morris.

Under this agreement, Morris will continue to be actively involved in the day-to-day operations of 12Tone Music and its artists.

The deal is expected to close towards the end of July.

12Tone’s catalog and list, most recently distributed by ADA, Warner’s Independent Label and Artist Services Arm, includes artists such as four-time Grammy-winning Aftermath Anderson .Paak and the 88 Rising collective (with global superstar Joji in their list).

The list and catalog also includes Look Up Child by Centricity’s Christian music superstar Lauren Daigle, groundbreaking electronic producer / artist ILLENIUM, and music legend Dolly Parton.

Multi-Grammy Award-winning Anderson .Paak’s newest Aftermath / 12Tone album, Ventura, peaked at number 2 on the Billboard R&B / Hip-Hop Albums Chart and became its first Top 5 album on the Billboard 200.

Most recently, he worked with Atlantic’s Bruno Mars to create their new collaborative project, Silk Sonic, which landed at # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Songs charts with Leave the Door Open. Silk Sonic’s debut album will be released this fall.

Leading dance / electronic artist, DJ and producer ILLENIUM, who to date has over five billion collective global streams, signed to 12Tone in early summer 2020, and his first album for the label, Fallen Embers, was released just last week.

The label 88Rising, founded by Sean Miyashiro, is a platform for Asian-American and Asian artists in the US, including the multi-platinum Joji, who alone has 7 billion streams worldwide to date, along with Keith Ape, Rich Brian, Warren Hue and Niki, among other things.

Other 12Tone successes include Lauren Daigle’s breakthrough into the pop mainstream with her third studio album, the Grammy-winning Look Up Child, which debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and was number 1 on the Christian Albums chart for 41 weeks.

In 2020, 12Tone released Dolly Partons A Holly Dolly Christmas, which landed at number 1 on the Billboard charts for top country albums and top holiday albums.

“After running all three of the big music companies, I loved getting back to my indie roots by starting 12Tone. I want to thank Steve Bartels and the 12Tone team for being such a big part of the picture. “
