The Weeknd, Wassim ‘SAL’ Slaiby and Craig Kallman spend money on customized tune creation agency, Songfinch
The startup Songfinch raised $ 2 million in an oversubscribed seed funding round.
The startup has also won The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye), Atlantic Records CEO Craig Kallman and The Weeknds manager and founder and CEO of SALXCO and XO RECORDS, Wassim ‘SAL’ Slaiby, as key investors.
Chicago-based Songfinch is founded by John Williamson, Rob Lindquist, Scott Kitun and Josh Kaplan, who is a partner of Saliby and serves as the co-manager and legal advisor to Doja Cat.
Rob Price, CEO, School of Rock, Michael Keizer, formerly of Recycled Paper Greetings, and David Kalt, founder of Reverb.com, are also on the company’s list of investors.
According to Songfinch’s website, the platform lets you choose a song’s style and mood, as well as share “stories and memories” that one of the company’s curated artists uses to create personalized lyrics.
The company then promises to have a bespoke song written, recorded and delivered within three to seven days. A song costs $ 249.
In total, Songfinch claims to have created over 20,000 original songs for birthdays, weddings and other occasions.
The company also claims to have “played an important role” for musicians during the Covid-19 pandemic, “as they were able to keep independent artists afloat with immediate income when venues and performance options weren’t available”.
“We look forward to being part of it and expanding it further together.”
