Good morning marketers, and it’s Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD).
“The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone to talk, think and learn about digital access and inclusion and the more than one billion people with disabilities,” according to the GAAD website.
Digital accessibility is about ensuring a web experience that is available to everyone – regardless of their level of performance. “Someone with a disability needs to be able to experience web-based services, content and other digital products with the same successful outcome as people without disabilities,” states the GAAD website.
If you think, “Well, anyone can use my website!” You’re probably wrong … According to WebAIM data, over 98% of websites have at least one accessibility issue. The biggest violations are low-contrast text and missing ALT text.
While Google hasn’t made accessibility a ranking factor (boo), it’s a crucial element for a positive online user experience. This is also required by law. If you haven’t made web accessibility your top priority, now is the perfect time to do so.

The Google Page Experience update appears on desktop pages
Jeffrey Jose, a Google product manager, announced at Google I / O that the Google Page Experience update will initially only affect mobile pages, but Google plans to make it available on desktop pages as well.

Why we care. Google is testing new RSS options for publishers and bloggers
Some Android users on Chrome Canary will soon see a new option to follow their favorite bloggers or publishers. The experimental feature is designed to provide users with the latest content from the websites they are following.
“Our goal for this feature is to enable users to follow the websites they care about, from the big publishers to the small neighborhood blogs, by tapping the Follow button in Chrome. When websites post content, users can see updates from websites they’ve followed in a new Follow section on the New Tab page, ”wrote Janice Wong, Chrome product manager.
Why we care. If you are a blogger or publisher big or small, make sure your RSS is up to date. This will ensure that Chrome can deliver the latest content to users with this experiment. Google plans to send more information and guidelines to web publishers as soon as the results of the experiment are in. This data also provides information about whether the test function in Chrome is made available to a wider audience.
Two surefire ways to enhance your presentations
Over the years, I’ve worked with speakers on countless meetings and webinars and discovered two mistakes speakers make, when fixed, can make a huge difference in how well the information they need to share is received.
The first mistake it’s about the presentation topic itself. It has to be narrowly defined. I cannot stress this enough. I think it’s natural to want to put a lot of information into your presentation, but realistically you can’t teach everything about keywords, link building, or any other general topic in 30-45 minutes. You want your viewers to complete a clear task or two that they can immediately implement in their own company to improve a process or increase ROI.
How to fix it. Think about your goal for the presentation. What one or two things do you want your viewers to do after they leave your presentation? Once you know, present that information and only that information.
The second mistake focuses on why the topic of your presentation matters and what viewers should be doing rather than showing them how to do it. When someone attends a meeting or webinar that indicates that they are interested in your topic and thinks it is important. Aside from a quick opening speech or a statistic to get their attention, there aren’t many details to go into as to why people should be interested in the topic. You are already doing it. That’s why they’re there.
How to fix it. It’s important to describe what you want viewers to do, but don’t stop there. Telling someone what to do isn’t as useful as showing them how to do it. So don’t just tell them, but provide steps, a process, examples, and details of how to do something.
That returns to the first point, know what a thing or two you want your viewers to walk away knowing how to do, and then show them exactly how to do it. Questions or Comments? Feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How to improve your brand’s Instagram exposure
COVID-19 turned 2020 into a year like no other as lockdowns around the world and social distancing resulted in massive increases in Instagram usage. Mention and Hubspot released their annual Instagram usage report to identify changes in trends and insights businesses can take in the face of the current global pandemic.
Some of the key findings from the report show that while big names top the engagement charts, smaller accounts are still seeing steady growth.
- Carousel posts overtook both frame and video posts as the most interesting type of post this year, with 62 likes and 5 comments as the norm.
- The best subtitle length for most engagement, in the 1,000 to 2,000 character range. This means that advocating storytelling can help generate more engagement and show authenticity in posts.
- Beauty and cosmetics industry accounts received the greatest exposure.

- Complete your brand’s Instagram profile: Make sure your bio has keywords and organize your stories into highlights.
- Be responsive and interact with your community: Reply to comments and DMs from the followers.
- Publish a balance sheet of content types: Diversify your content to include image posts, videos, stories, IGTV, and roles.
When retargeting ads, make sure you are a FLoC partner and a Google partner of Shopify

Google is partnering with Shopify on the online shopping extension. “Google has announced that it will partner with Shopify to enable the e-commerce platform’s more than 1.7 million merchants to reach consumers through Google Search and its other services,” wrote Sarah Perez for TechCrunch .
The data model behind the flexibility of Notion
Notion.io is taking the world by storm. Almost everyone I’ve spoken to in the past two weeks has something good to say. Notion is a “workspace where you can write, plan, collaborate and organize – it allows you to take notes, add tasks, manage projects and much more,” said Francesco D’Alessio of Keep Productive.
The beauty of Notion is that it can really be anything you want or need: a to-do list, a notes page, a calendar, a CRM, a curriculum, a directory, etc. (TBH, this is also the difficult part if you like I am and want to do everything at once).
How does Notion make it so easy to do something? Blocks.
