Instagram Provides Group Fundraisers, Facilitating New Consciousness Alternatives
Instagram added the ability to run group fundraisers on the platform which will allow users to raise awareness of root causes by having multiple people collaborate on a single fundraiser within the app.
As explained by Instagram:
“Offline fundraising is often a group activity, of things like walk-a-thons, to bake sales, to concerts, and we wanted to instill the same sense of community on Instagram fundraisers so people could get together for a single cause. 100% of the money goes directly to the non-profit organization for which you are also raising money. “
As you can see in the example, now when you set up a fundraiser on IG, you can invite others to join the initiative as well, as Instagram notes, and enables new forms of fundraising initiatives.
Instagram has been working on adding more tools for people to use to raise funds on the platform in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The platform added in-person fundraisers last July, followed by Instagram Live fundraisers in August. Instagram added capacity too so that users can create and share charitable fundraising campaigns directly in their IG feed in November last year.
And those efforts have opened up new possibilities with Facebook reports that the various tools on the main platform and Instagram raised a total of over 5 billion US dollars.
Group fundraising drives add another element to this and could lead to more people wanting to start joint fundraising and awareness-raising projects on the platform.
To start a group fundraiser:
- First, create a fundraiser yourself by tapping the “Create” (“+”) icon in the top right of your feed> select “Post”> select an image> tap “Add Fundraiser” and select the nonprofit for which You want to collect donations> add details and tap “Share”
- Then invite others to join by tapping the Share button on your donations page> Invite Group Members> find the accounts you want to invite and you’re done!
