Common inks unique international take care of Indian music celebrity Badshah

Universal Music Group (UMG) has reached an exclusive global agreement with Indian music superstar and entrepreneur Badshah.

Under the multi-year agreement, Badshah will work exclusively with UMG in all areas of his career, including future recordings, music publishing rights for non-film compositions, trademark licenses and partnerships.

Badshah, a Delhi-born rapper, singer and music producer, is described by UMG as “India’s most successful music artist of his generation” who has generated more than 15 billion streams worldwide, played more than 700 live shows and has become an ambassador for global brands.

Badshah is the only Indian artist in history to have produced 15 different songs, each with more than 200 million video views on YouTube, including: Paani Paani, Genda Phool, She Move It Like, Paagal Kala Chashma, Heartless, DJ Waley Babu, Garmi and Mercy, breaking numerous chart records along the way.

The partnership is led by the team at Universal Music India.

Global priority support and future music are released by international partner labels including Capitol Records in the US and EMI in the UK, supported by UMG’s label network in over 60 territories covering 180 markets.

According to UMG, Badshah will now work “with some of the most influential and popular artists in the world”, with the first tracks being released this summer.

Based on the combined annual video views on the platform, Badshah was recently recognized by music rights data platform Blokur as the world’s # 1 songwriter on YouTube in 2020. He was also embroiled in an industry debate over paid games on the platform in 2019.
