The Orchard inks international distribution cope with UK unbiased label BE83 Music

Birmingham, UK based independent record label BE83 Music has signed a global distribution agreement with Sony Music’s The Orchard.

Founded in 2006 as a content production company, BE83 is now home to recording, management, content creation and publishing.

BE83’s management arm represents the careers of British talent such as Jaykae, Smoke Boyz, Dapz On The Map and others.

BE83 founder and CEO Despa Robinson started his first record label StayFresh Entertainment in 2005 and then started BE83 as a creative content company focusing on artist management and recording in 2006.

Robinson has previously presented on UK radio station Rinse FM and directed music videos for greats like UK rap star Skepta.

He has produced his own television show called Meet The Artists, interviewing British stars like Big Narstie and Kano.

In addition to the distribution agreement, BE83 will continue to expand its management arm of the company and represent new talent, including creatives outside of music.

This strategy is supported by a new partnership with artist manager Jess Monroe, who currently leads British rapper Morrison and Bandokay from the British drill duo OFB.

“Birmingham is a city full of talent.”

Despa Robinson

Despa Robinson said: “Birmingham is a city full of talent that has often lacked the infrastructure for the music business.

“Just as Atlanta became internationally known with the rise of its powerful artists and labels, Birmingham has its own unique pace and sound that I believe will do the same here in the UK

“This new partnership between BE83 and The Orchard allows us to grow our business and realize this vision of carrying the sound of the Midlands around the world.

“In addition to hiring talent from our home region, BE83 will make a difference around the world and I look forward to working with Tim and Ian to achieve some great success at home and abroad.”

“It was a natural step to expand our relationship and support him and his team in their endeavors.”

Ian Dutt, The Orchard

Ian Dutt, Managing Director of The Orchard, said, “We have worked with Despa for a number of years and have long appreciated their work ethic and talent.

“It was a natural step to expand our relationship and support him and his team in their endeavors.

“Incredible artistic talent can exist anywhere, but the UK music industry is very London biased. Our partnership with BE83 allows us to expand our reach and support a great music manager.

“I’m looking forward to seeing both Despa and the label flourish.”

“The M25 no longer defines success and nobody gets that more than Despa.”

Timothy Youdeowei, The Orchard

Timothy Youdeowei, Strategy at The Orchard added, “Aitch, Bugzy Malone, Jaykae, Slowthai, Young T & Bugsey, M1llionz, Pa Salieu – the list goes on.

“Great Britain produces high quality music and generation of inspiring artists from around the world, success is no longer defined by the M25 and nobody gets that more than Despa.

“Despa has proven to be a highly qualified, aspiring music mogul who is independently building a full-service entertainment company with which we are now proud to be able to work together on the label side worldwide.

“Despa has big ambitions – ‘Birmingham is Britain’s answer to Atlanta’ – and I totally agree with him.”Music business worldwide
