Tencent-owned music streaming service JOOX inks licensing take care of Merlin

Tencent-owned music streaming platform JOOX has a license agreement with Merlin, the global agency for digital rights for the worldwide independent label sector.

The agreement licenses Merlin content through the ad-supported and premium tiers of JOOX as well as through the karaoke feature and library in Asia, including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand, and South Africa.

JOOX claims to be the largest music streaming platform in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Myanmar.

The platform attracts advertisements from major consumer brands like Coca-Cola, P&G, Unilever and regional brands like the e-commerce platform Shopee and the Southeast Asian “super app” Grab.

Merlin says the deal will also make it easier for members to access marketing and promotional activities for the JOOX service.

Today’s news follows Merlin’s deal signed last month with China-based music streaming service NetEase Cloud Music and Merlin’s renewal of its multi-year licensing agreement with NetEase rival Tencent Music Entertainment in November 2020.
