Deezer indicators strategic partnership with Brazilian Netflix rival Globoplay

The French-born audio streaming service Deezer and the Brazilian video streaming provider and Netflix rival Globoplay have signed a new strategic partnership.

With this offer, all Globoplay users can subscribe to Deezer Premium for 12 months free of charge. After that, the monthly price will be reduced.

Globoplay, Brazil’s largest home-grown video streaming service, was launched in 2015 by media giant Globo and, according to Deadline, has 30 million users in its paid and ad-supported levels.

Deezer, who claims to have 16 monthly active users worldwide, says the deal is “the first step in a broader strategic partnership that spans marketing, content and technology.”

The next steps in the partnership will bring Brazilian viewers a number of new exclusive original content initiatives, according to Deezer, and the two companies are also considering plans for deeper integration between video and audio entertainment.

From January of this year, Globoplay expanded into the audio business with the introduction of a special hub for online audio content.

Through partnerships with independent providers such as B9, Globoplay has added a number of podcasts such as Mamilos and Braincast to its portfolio.

Projetos Humanos, a Brazilian news podcast by journalist Ivan Mizanzuk, is also currently available on the platform.

Globoplay’s first original podcast À Mão Armada, produced and narrated by journalist Sônia Bridi, will be available exclusively to G1 and Deezer customers.

The new partnership also offers Deezer the supposedly “attractive business opportunities” at Globo. The global audio streaming service has been confirmed as a strategic partner for The Voice Brasil’s 2021 edition.
