The Universal Music Group (UMG) has launched the Tuff Gong Collective (TGC), a new joint venture with Cedella Marley.
TGC is a global partnership that includes new film, television and music recordings by artists that have been signed as part of the company.
TGC is mentored by award-winning recording artist, producer, writer and fashion designer Cedella Marley – the firstborn of Bob and Rita Marley.
She is CEO of the Bob Marley Group of Companies, Director of the Bob Marley Foundation, and oversees Marley Holdings.
In 2014, Marley was named global ambassador for Reggae Girlz, Jamaica’s women’s football program, to help the team advance to the Women’s World Cup in Canada.
Cedella’s son Soul Rebel also joins TGC as Creative Director.
TGC partnered with Island Records’ 4th and Broadway on its first artist signing, Young Devyn, whose latest single is called Straight To It.
In addition, TGC Devyn and her repertoire will be represented in the Caribbean.
TGC will also participate in new film and television projects with UMG through Polygram Entertainment.
Current projects include a feature animation project with Walt Disney Co. written by Kenya Barris.
Cedella Marley and David Blackman, UMG’s director of development and production for film and television, will co-produce the film with E. Brian Dobbins of Principato-Young Entertainment.
